Samantha is an urban planner focused on how to incorporate community-oriented practices and equitable economic development opportunities in historically disinvested spaces.

Samantha obtained her Master of Urban and Regional Planning from UCLA Luskin, with a concentration in Community Economic Development and Housing. Her capstone project followed a community collaborative approach, partnering with Downtown Crenshaw Rising! and several community-based organizations in the greater South-Central community. The final report was a strategic plan to guide transformative practices towards infrastructure, equitable economic development, and resiliency in community. Samantha also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Public Policy from UC Riverside.

Prior to obtaining her master’s in urban planning, she worked as a case manager for a community-based mental health clinic in Southeast Los Angeles. In this role, she was exposed to the connection between urban planning practices and its impacts on community mental health and physical well-being.

Additionally, Samantha has had several internships to strengthen her diverse interests and skill set, including the Department of Economic Affairs at the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles and the Long Beach Community Design Center, a community-based organization. She has worked with Dr. Ananya Roy’s Institute on Inequality and Democracy, supporting research after the Echo Park Lake displacement.

Samantha enjoys integrating into spaces at a professional and personal level. Being born and raised in Los Angeles, Samantha is intentional with exploring Latinx, Chicanx, and Black, mercados, art exhibits, and especially coffee shops.
